Federal Government- The Senate

The Senate

You will need to watch this video as a class, you will probably have time to watch it twice.

While you watch, you will need to take Cornell Notes.

You will also need to record 3 interesting things to share with a partner.

We will be able to use Cornell Notes to record information.

I can use the Cornell Notes structure to record information on the House of Representatives.

I can share 3 interesting things/questions (from the video) with a partner.

Political Party Platforms

As part of your political party project, you will need to have a space within your blog that describes what your 2 platforms for change are (proposed bill changes). The best way to do this is by creating a sibling page.

Step 1)
Create your political party PAGE

Step 2)
Create a second page for your platform. On the RHS, there is a box that says ‘Page Attributes’. This is just under where you click to post your page. Click on the drop down that says ‘Parent Page’ and select the page that is your Party Page.

You will now have a drop down menu for your political party platforms.

Some of you have been confused about how to write up your platforms/bill changes.

Check out these political websites:

Greens- Save the Reef

Labor Campaigns

Liberal- Our Plan

You can see that some of these are quite wordy and long- yours doesn’t have to be. About a paragraph is good. You will need to describe what you are going to change, why you think it should change and how you are suggesting this is paid for.

You should include lots of pictures, lots of punchy headlines (be clever- use alliteration, similes, metaphors, persuasive techniques, rhetorical questions etc), you can include glitter texts, videos, photos of your Political Party in/with the space you want to change, anything made on PicCollage to get your voters attention.

Who was the most influential person/people during the Eureka Stockade?

We will understand the influence of people/persons on the shaping of Australia as a nation.

I can answer skinny questions to inform my knowledge

I can create a video production including reasons to support my opinion.

This is a mini project about the Eureka Stockade, to help build your knowledge of this important event, so that you can have a stronger understanding before we go to camp and so that you can understand a bit more about how this event was a powerful move towards Federation.

There are 2 parts to this mini project- the first part we will start today. They are some ‘skinny’ questions.

1)When was the Eureka Stockade?

2)Where was the Eureka Stockade?

3)What was the Eureka Stockade? What happened there?

4)Describe what life was like for the miners- find a photo/painting

5)What does the Eureka Flag look like and what does it symbolise?

I would like you to answer these questions in your inquiry  project book.

The second part, which you can be thinking about is: Who was the most influential person/people during the Eureka Stockade?

You will create a video/EE production, answering the question, including images and voice over to answer the question.
One of the images must be of their inquiry project book, including the answers to the skinny questions.

Hello Candidates

This Thursday, you will have from 9-12:30 to finalise your political party’s policies, advertising and funding ideas, social media page, logos, and slogans. From 12:30-12:45 you will be able to set up your campaign space, ready for the constituents to arrive and vote. The whole school will be voting, if they choose to.

On Thursday afternoon the successful party will be sworn in and will be allocated some time to decide how they would like to govern the grade 6s for the final day of school, within the law, of course. Remember, you will need to uphold your policies- nothing annoys the public more than a lying politician.

As Thursday is your campaign day, you will be able to come in a suitable uniform for your party. Remember that you are a professional and will need to be dressed as such. You may bring other items from home, such as fabric, toys, crafting materials etc as long as they are part of your political party’s logo, slogan etc.

What in the World??!! on EE!

Hi Everyone,

Today and tomorrow, we will be collecting some data and information to further our understanding of government and our world.

The task you need to complete can be found here: What in the World

When you are working, I want you to focus on:

Representing/sharing information in an appropriate/interesting manner using Explain Everything.

Collecting data to make mathematical comparisons.

You will use Explain Everything to present your data, however, as you are grade 6 students, you should be nearly ‘experts’ at using this app. Therefore, I am looking for you to be using EE for more than just presenting text and pictures.

In EE, you have the capacity to use audio/voice over, animation (making things rotate/move), filming your screen, adding music, videos, high lighting text as well as displaying text and images.

Delightful Democracy

We’ve been investigating Government this term and this was something that we started off not knowing a single thing about! That just meant that we had loads of questions, I wonders and I thinks happening in our discussion.

We watched this video together 4 times, yes 4! We found this really helpful- each time we watched we found out a little bit more. We used the video to help us with our first go at summarising from an audio source, which was quite tricky!

Now we know lots of different things about Democracy- can you share what you found out about?

Miss C.
